Under Alidad's direction, the neo-classical ceiling was restored and re-coloured. Fabrics were specially woven for the room, incuding Empire fabric for the chairs and pale green damask for the walls. Alidad sourced the carpet, had the panelling re-gilded and the curtains embroidered and made. The fireplace design was based on the original, a photograph of which was found in the archive of Country Life Magazine.
Most importantly, Alidad introduced a computerised lighting system that is completely hidden from view. It allows the paintings to be enjoyed, while also protecting them from light damage. To help create the illusion, he took the one surviving original picture light and had it copied by the original factory, but in effect it is lighting of the most high-tech variety that adds to the enjoyment of this magnificent room.
