Alidad has recently joined forces with Chelsea Textiles to produce his first collection of embroidered textiles titled: Bosphorus

He has drawn on his extensive love and knowledge of 16th-century Ottoman designs to create eight of the designs. The ninth and tenth owe their inspiration to Persian tiles of the same period.

The sixteenth century was the great flowering period of Ottoman art, with recurring motifs such as the tulip, carnation, rose, hyacinth and serrated Saz leaf found not only in the textiles of the period, but also in pottery, metalwork, leatherwork, tiles and other artisan traditions. One particularly important motif is the Cintamani - usually represented in Ottoman art as three discs hovering above two wavy lines. This elaborate repertoire of flowers, leaves and symbols influenced both eastern and western styles of decoration, echoed for example in the fabrics of Tudor England.
